Different Thursian Paths

Not all Thursian paths are identical, nor do they share the same beliefs and objectives. To clearly distinguish our path from others, we have named it the Thursatru Tradition.

In recent years, various new Thursian streams, books, and online texts have emerged, each presenting unique perspectives on the Thursian giants and their origins. These viewpoints do not always align with the acosmic and anti-cosmic, Ginnic and anti-æsiric principles we uphold; some even categorize certain æsir as Thursian.

Given this diversity, it is crucial for us to elucidate the distinctions between our Thursatru Path and other Thursian interpretations. Our tradition is specifically defined by the guidelines and teachings found in the book series Þursakyngi and on this official Thursatru website. These sources exclusively represent our spiritual path.

If you are specifically interested in the Thursatru Tradition, we advise against relying on general "Thursian" information found on the internet and in random books. Instead, we recommend seeking teachings directly from this website or the books authored by Ekortu. These sources provide the most accurate and authentic representation of our tradition.

On Thursatru, “Thursian”, and 128

Thursatru, or the Thursatru Tradition, serves as a distinct spiritual path within the broader realm of “Thursian” beliefs. However, it is crucial to recognize that not all individuals who identify with the term “Thursian” adhere to the specific traditions and principles of Thursatru. Those who embrace the label “Thursian” may follow entirely different systems and spiritual currents, diverging significantly from the ethos of Thursatru.

This distinction is paramount because each spiritual current originates from unique sources and embodies different spirits, powers, and gods. Within the context of Thursatru, our spiritual current aligns with the 218 current but is expressed through the Thursian symbolism. It has organically and spiritually revealed itself to us as one of the 128 aspects or configurations of that anti-cosmic current.

The 128 codification has, for the past few decades, also manifested another facet of the 218 current, still not publicly disclosed, related to a specific crossing between Egyptian and Hellenic elements of magic. This esoteric 128 emanation of the 218 current is outwardly unrelated to our aspects of the work and should not be confused with it, although, on an essential level, it remains secretly linked to it on the most fundamental core level.

Within our tradition, the 128 expressions of the 218 current are often referred to by various names, such as the Spiritual Thursian Bloodline of Aurgelmir, the Ginnic Current, the Utgardian Current, the Eitr Current, or the Anti-æsiric Current.

The most significant and holy examples within the Thursatru Tradition that include the number 128 are epitomized by Loki and Gullveig, the paramount Thurses within our path. They are the harbingers of Ginnic enlightenment and guidance, the sovereigns of Útgarðr, and the vanguards in the journey towards Ragnarök.

In regard to Loki, his ancient names Hveðrungr and Firnaslægr, as recorded in skaldic poetry, possess the numeric value 128 within our sacred Thursian Serpentine Runerow. This numerical alignment confirms that the mighty Loki is indeed the Thursian torchbearer, illuminating the path with the light from Útgarðr. Within our Thursian workings, we also have esoteric names for Loki tied to specific bind-runes and aspects that hold the numeric value of 128: Múspells-Loki, Valþurs, and Fornvargr.

Regarding Gullveig, her Utgardian realm of Járnviðr, as depicted in Eddic poetry, is where her spirit and power reside and where she nurtures her offspring, Fenrir’s kind. This realm also holds the numeric value of 128, affirming that her spirit and power stem from this anti-cosmic current. Similar to Loki, in our tradition, we have esoteric names connected to Gullveig that represent specific bind-runes and aspects with the numerical value of 128, such as Þrymkona, Ginndróttning, and Þursvölva (reduced to Þursvla according to tradition.)

This profound connection forms the foundation of the Thursatru Tradition’s link to the 218 current, emphasizing the intrinsic relationship between our revered Thurses and the numerological significance within our sacred practices. Through this Utgardian numerical synergy, we affirm our path’s authenticity and our alignment with the Ginnic, anti-Yggdrasilian forces that shape our beliefs and illuminate our path.

Furthermore, the Thurses have revealed that numerology can be used for divination, serving as a means for spiritual communication. The number 128 frequently appears as a Thursian number in blessings and consent given by the Thurses, approval of workings, and signs of their presence, often interpreted as an Utgardian omen.

Understanding these distinctions helps Thursatruar navigate their spiritual path effectively, ensuring alignment with the specific currents and traditions that resonate with their perspectives, beliefs, and experiences.

Thursatru is based on Eddic lore, not Abrahamic

Contrary to the common misconception that Thursatru is based on Abrahamic dualism, Thursatru's Þursar vs. æsir opposition is rooted in Eddic lore, not in Abrahamic religions. Our foundation rests on the following:

1, Ymir/Aurgelmir, the first Þurs, predates the æsir and creation (Völuspá 2-3, Vafþrúðnismál 29, Gylfaginning 5).

2. Aurgelmir, considered evil, and his descendants are Þursar (Thurses), not æsir (Gylfaginning 5). In this context, 'evil' signifies their role as adversaries and opponents of the æsir and their world.

3. During Ragnarök, Þursar will defeat the æsir, burning their world (Völuspá 40ff, Gylfaginning 51).

Based on our understanding and spiritual wisdom, we see Þursar (Aurgelmir's descendants) as originating from a spiritual lineage in Ginnungagap, predating the æsir (gods) and Miðgarðr (the cosmos/universe). Thus, this lineage is viewed as acosmic (not part of the cosmos), Utgardian (from Outside of the cosmos), and Ginnic (related to Ginnungagap).

When the æsir emerged, they lacked the knowledge to create matter. They slew Aurgelmir and tried to eliminate his descendants, then used Aurgelmir's spiritual body to form their ordered world, Miðgarðr. In response, Ginnungagap's void birthed an opposing world, Útgarðr, ruled by Þursar as adversaries of the æsir and protectors of the Ginnic wisdom and power. Hence, the Þursar and their cause are deemed anti-cosmic (opposing the cosmos) and anti-æsiric (opposing the æsir).

In our perspective, the Ginnic or Thursian Spirit represented a pure, benevolent, and omnipotent essence in a tranquil Ginnungagap before the rise of the æsir. The æsir, viewed as greedy tyrants, killed the first Þurs to establish their own world governed by restrictions and laws. Therefore, Miðgarðr is seen as a hellish world ruled by the æsir, a world where our spirits are trapped in, and the Þursar being the opposition and liberators for those aligned with Aurgelmir's Spiritual, Thursian Bloodline.

The Thursatru Tradition, also known as Þursatrú Siðr, stems from working with the Thursian Giants. In our Thursian tradition, we carve new paths through Aurgelmir's bones to distinctively separate our beliefs from others. We acknowledge that Thursatru diverges from Old Norse perspectives, mythology, and religion. We are not asserting Thursatru as a Viking Age religion, but we incorporate Norse religious elements.

While we value Norse mythology and religion, we recognize that those powers exist today. Therefore, we engage with the Spirit of old Thurses from a modern viewpoint and practice, as it's essential to avoid limiting ourselves solely to what is documented from the Viking Age through the Middle Ages.

In our Þursa Siðr, spiritual powers from Outside of this world have inspired and taught us through years of invocations, prayers, communion, and divination. We've given the Thurses specific formulas, runic seals, and attributes, so they align with the essence of Norse mythological forms, but also reflecting the Utgardian Current within our spiritual practices and blót.
